Inslee makes Bike Month official in America's most bike-friendly state

We couldn’t ask for a better start to Bike Month! Not only is this a beautiful day to kick off the Commute Challenge and our weekly policy rides/happy hours, Washington’s cycling community was honored twice-over.

Inslee decrees May is Bike Month

First, Governor Jay Inslee officially proclaimed May is Bike Month, citing the environmental, economic and health benefits of bicycling. In his proclamation, the governor gives a shout-out (which I believe is the ceremonially-correct term) to organizations like Cascade Bicycle Club, Washington Bikes and others who are putting on fun and free events all month long to encourage a better community through bicycling.

We are so proud to have a governor who recognizes the importance of active transportation. Read more at Washington Bikes.

Washington named #1 Bike-Friendly State

Second, the League of American Bicyclists named Washington the #1 Bike-Friendly State in the country. No big deal, it’s only the seventh time in a row!

The League commends Washington for our policies, planning and education around bicycling issues. However, there is still room for improvement, particularly in data collection and funding transportation to make roads safe for all users.

Thanks to all of the bicycle advocates working in our neighborhoods, at the statehouse and across Washington to make this the best place in America to ride a bicycle.

We’ve got incredible momentum and support behind us. Let’s continue working to create a better community through bicycling. Get involved today!
