Free Group Ride
FRUMPS: North Lake Washington Loop
Event has already happened.
This ride is a variation of north Lake Washington loops starting at the north end in Log Boom Park and crossing the Lake on I 90 and the north end of Mercer Island. There is only one major hill on the ride, up Juanita Hill, but it is not a steep climb and we will take it at our own pace and regroup at the top of the hill before a great long decent into Juanita Beach Park. The remainder of the ride consists of short ups and down as we circumnavigate Lake Washington through very pleasant neighborhoods. We will stop for a sit down lunch in Mercer Island at mile 22 before crossing the Lake and heading north through the Arboretum and up the Burke Gilman Trail to our starting point.
I will be riding at a real Steady pace meaning 13 mph on the flats. I plan to keep us all together, including regrouping at the tops of hills. Because of the varied riding conditions, I strongly recommend that participants have some experience riding with groups and in urban settings. If you are new to group riding, please review the Cascade newcomer info. Have extra tubes plus the skills to change your own flat and tackle minor mechanical problems. Long fenders are recommended.
There are bathroom facilities at the beginning of the ride and another rest stop at 7 miles in Juanita Bay Park.
Note that 4 hour parking limitation signs are posted at Log Boom Park; to be on the safe side you might consider parking on some of the side streets just south of the park.
Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the start to prepare your bike, listen to the ride briefing and SMART talk. I will roll promptly at 9:30 AM.
I will cancel the ride if there is a strong prediction of showers OR if the starting temperature is likely to be below 40 degrees. In the event of a weather cancellation, I will post a notice in the comments section of this page at least two hours before the ride. I will not be at the ride start location.
Cue sheets will not be provided, please print one if desired.
Please pre-sign the waiver by clicking on the red Register Now button at the top, filling in the requested information, and clicking on Save. Online waiver will close two hours before the start, after that time you will need to legibly sign the waiver at the start location.
