This is a beautiful and challenging ride for those who want to keep up the high level of fitness they developed for the STP or RAMROD. We will start at Toutle Lake High School and ride up to the Johnston Ridge Observatory along the Spirit Lake Highway. Along the way we will take in some fabulous views as we climb about 7000ft over a total distance of 85 miles. One of the nice things about this route is that there are visitors' centers along the way where we can stop to refill our water bottles and use the restrooms. Unfortunately, there is no water or restrooms at the start, so you may want to stop at one of the rest areas before getting off the freeway. This is a difficult ride in a remote area and cell phone coverage may be limited. Before showing up for this ride please be sure that you are able to handle the distance and climbing, and that you are self sufficient for repair. I am posting this ride at a vigorous pace, but everyone can climb the mountain at their own pace. We will probably get split up on the climbs, but we will regroup periodically.
If you would like to join me on this ride please register or contact me so that I have an idea of who to expect. It is about a 2.5 hour drive from Seattle to Toutle.
