Free Group Ride
Whidbey Island Loop
Event has already happened.
Come ride with us on a scenic and challenging ride looping through Whidbey Island. This ride will be at a brisk pace or if you are slower or faster than what we offer, it will be self-guided. Please bring a cue sheet and/or upload the route information, onto your GPS device before the ride start. Every rider is also expected to be able to fix a flat and other minor mechanicals.
Regroups will be as needed and at the top of major hills. We will wait a reasonable amount of time but in the interest of the group we may not be able to wait an extended period of time. This ride is both challenging and rewarding. Riders should have at least successfully completed a century ride, before attempting this. There are very few bailout options. Expect this to be an all day adventure!
In addition to steady rain, any other hazardous conditions will cancel a ride. If a ride is cancelled due to weather and hazardous conditions, it will be posted here in the comment section 2 hours prior to the start time and ride leaders will not be waiting at the start.
*We will be riding on Highway 20. I highly recommend a good tail light. For the most part there is ample shoulder, and less elevation than the backroads. I have tried to eliminate the sections with little shoulder, and offer scenic roads with minimal increase in elevation. If you are not comfortable riding on a highway, then this is not the ride for you.
8 am is a roll out time. Please be ready to roll at least 15 min before the start time to sign a waiver and listen to the safety and route briefing.
*Parking: Parking is restricted and therefore unavailable at Lighthouse Park. You will need to find parking on the streets locally.
*Food and rest stops: There are two grocery store stops, one at Stanwood(mile 35) and the other at Oak Harbor(mile 80). Here will take as much time needed to re-fuel. Of coarse there will be the obligatory "photo stop" at Deception Pass (mile 70). There will be other opportunities for water, food and bathrooms. These will be determined by the group, as we go. Be prepared to fuel and hydrate yourself in between.
Pre-registration is available and saves you time at the start by not having to fill out the waiver form. Click on the waiver link below, sign in with your Cascade user account, click on the register tab and fill out the information. Remember to save.
