CATS Magnuson (Brisk) #10: Enumclaw 111
If you are new, please read our newcomer information.
Tenth in an annual series of weekly training rides designed to help riders prepare for large events (STP, RSVP, RAMROD, HPC, etc.). Rides will increase in distance and elevation gain each week. We will meet in the large parking lot (W6) adjacent to the playing fields in Magnuson Park.
This week we head south, through Capital Hill, the Central District and Beacon Hill before descending to Airport Way and into Tukwilla. There we'll continue south, primarily along the Interurban Trail, through Kent to our 1st rest stop at Algona City Park, then continue south to Auburn, where we'll greet our one big climb of the day atop Lakeland Hills Way SE (160 meters in < 3 km). We'll continue south past Lake Tapps, where we'll turn east along the Sumner-Buckley Highway. We'll pass through Buckley to Mud Mountain Rd. before turning north for our 2nd rest stop at the QFC in Enumclaw. We'll continue north to a point just south of Flaming Geyser State Park, where we'll turn onto SE Green Valley Road. We'll follow that route back into Auburn and our 3rd rest stop at Isaac Evans Park, before turning north again, taking local roads into Renton. We'll follow Lake Washington Blvd. back up towards Denny-Blaine and through the Arboretum before jumping back onto Sand Point Way and the return to Magnuson.
This is another long, hard ride, though not nearly as hilly as the last few weeks. Still, it is important that each rider understand the need to bring along sufficient tools, parts and supplies. This includes spare tubes, a patch kit, pump or Co2, as well as food and water. We will maintain a strict brisk pace (16-18 mph on the flats). If wet, fenders would be appreciated. We plan to leave promptly at 8:00 AM.
