E-Bike Curious? Test Some Electric Bikes at Seattle Bike Swap!

• Cascade is partnering with multiple e-bike sellers to offer free electric bike test rides around the Seattle Center.

The deals and steals at the 2023 Seattle Bike Swap on Saturday Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall will be positively bananas–and electrifying!

In addition to the usual low low prices on bike gear, used bikes, riding apparel, lights, vintage cycling swag, tubes, lubes, tires, and more, this year you can test ride some electric bikes.

Cascade is partnering with some of the Seattle area’s most popular electric bike shops and e-bike brands to offer an E-Bike Demo Day. 

That means you can kick the tires on a bunch of different e-bikes from leading brands, then go for a spin around the Seattle Center or on nearby Queen Anne bike lanes. All it costs is $8 if you register online ($10 at the door, kids 15 and under get in free).

Portland-based electric bike brand Vvolt will have its Centauri (shown above), Centauri S, Alpha S (shown below) and Sirius e-bikes available to demo. Vvolt specializes in low-maintenance transportation e-bikes, with grease-free belt drives instead of chains on all of its models.

Propella Electric Bikes, based in Redmond, will offer tests rides of its Mini and 7S models shown below.

Seattle Electric Bike, located in Greenlake and Bothell, will have multiple brands and e-bike models available from Marin, Yamaha, Tern, Momentum, and Bianchi.

Score Some Deals, Consign Your Used Bikes

Never attended the Seattle Bike Swap? It’s a great chance for bike nerds, collectors, buyers and sellers, or anyone looking for a used bike or gear to score some sweet bargains. Check out our photo essay from 2022: Vintage Bikes and Bonkers Bargains. 

“It’s a fun event and a great way for people to find a good used bike or to turn that used gear cluttering your garage into cash,” says Dave Douglas, Cascade’s events director. “The deals are bonkers.”

Used bike sellers can consign their bikes in the Major Taylor Project booth for a $10 fee plus 10 percent of the sale’s proceeds. Revenues generated from these sales will go to support MTP, a year-round youth development program focused on using bikes to create opportunities for Black and Brown youth, and young people from systemically underserved communities. 

Look for this vintage Nishiki in the MTP booth, as well as a custom 1983 DiNucci and a 1970s Rickert road racing bike.

Cascade member Nick Zeller donated the DiNucci and Rickert shown below. "The DiNucci was built for me over 15 months and finished in the summer of 1984 before Mark DiNucci was hired to design bikes for Specialized," says Zeller, who will be in the MTP booth to answer questions. Both the DiNucci and Rickert have been lovingly maintained and feature vintage parts from their era, including Campagnola shifters and derailleurs.

Once again, our good friends at Bike Works will be working in the MTP booth. Vendors are encouraged to donate any unsold bikes and items to Bike Works so they can be given to community members in need.

Skagit Cycle Center will have a large booth filled with marked-down items, and the Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop booth is a must-visit.
