Streets are for people. Complete Streets are streets designed for everyone, meaning they work for people who bike, walk, use transit as well as people who drive and use delivery vehicles. Complete Streets should be safe and comfortable for everyone to travel along and simple to cross. Over 90 cities in Washington state have adopted ordinances requiring that their streets are redesigned to consider all users.

Every two years, Complete Streets Awards are awarded by the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) to cities and counties who work to make streets safe for people who bike, walk, drive, and use transit. The TIB partners with a handful of approved nominating partners, such as board-approved state agencies and nonprofit organizations, that have an interest in transportation or complete streets. Current approved nominators include Cascade Bicycle Club, Feet First, Community Transportation Association NW, and Futurewise, as well as several state agency partners.

Cascade is proud to be one of the nominating organizations for this award which will offer over $14 million in funding over two years. If your jurisdiction is interested in being nominated by Cascade Bicycle Club, please complete this application by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021.

As a part of the Complete Streets Grant Program, TIB looks for jurisdictions showing a strong commitment to complete streets ethics in policies and projects for their upcoming awards. As a nominator, Cascade has established a competitive process for the review of prospective jurisdictions. The call for nominations begins on August 1, 2021 and ends on October 29, 2021. Cascade Bicycle Club will notify applicants on whether they will receive a nomination for consideration by TIB by December 1, 2021. If your jurisdiction is interested in being nominated by Cascade Bicycle Club for a complete streets grant award, please fill out the complete streets nomination application by October 29, 2021.

In 2021, TIB will review nominations and allocate the awards. The awards are only open to cities and counties that have an adopted Complete Streets Ordinance. Those interested should review the Complete Streets Grant program section on the TIB website to learn about the requirements.
