Rider alert: Construction at Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal begins Monday

Weekend pleasure-riders and multi-modal commuters, take note: construction begins Monday, Feb. 3 at the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal, resulting in lane closures for boarding and disembarking the ferry. Employees at the terminal warn quarters will be tight when riding on and off the ferry and are instructing bicyclists to use the marked bike lanes whenever possible.

Construction will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and the lane closures will last about a month while the terminal undergoes renovations.

There have been several accidents involving bicyclists at the Bainbridge Island Terminal recently, so remember to be extra cautious and take it slow when boarding and disembarking.

And as a final reminder, when entering or exiting the terminal holding area, WSDOT is asking bicyclists to use the bike lanes, rather than toll booth lanes for cars. Riding through toll booths messes with their counters and makes an administrative headache for some really nice folks.

Stay safe out there!
