42 new bikes delivered to Mountlake Terrace Elementary

Imagine waking up to not one but 42 brand new, super shiny, red and blue bikes. It’s a vision both kids and adults dream of!

On Wednesday we were able to make that vision come true as we delivered 42 bikes to Mountlake Terrace Elementary School with the goal of expanding bicycle education to every elementary school in the Edmonds School District.

Principal Doug Johnson was thrilled with the delivery of the new bikes, which live at the school and allow every single student to learn how to ride and feel comfortable on a bike.

“The kids are going to be so excited, probably not as excited as I am though,” said Johnson.  “We now have the ability to teach all kids bike safety and skills.  This is so cool and exciting! And our kids are so lucky!”

The bikes were bought with funds from a Safe Routes to Schools grant, which was obtained through a partnership between the City of Mountlake Terrace, Cascade Bicycle Club and the Edmonds School District.

This grant also paid for a new sidewalk into Mountlake Terrace Elementary School, two bike trailers, a free bike helmet for every child at Mountlake Terrace Elementary, a weekly Wheels Club, a Bike Rodeo in May and an inspiring school assembly with mountain biker Ryan Leech.

Here is to getting kids on bikes and loving the wind in their hair!
