Exciting news is coming out of Boston where doctors have introduced a new solution to help low-income residents beat obesity: discounted bike-share memberships.

Streetsblog reports that a new program, called Prescribe-a-Bike, offers low-income residents struggling with obesity an annual Hubway bike sharing membership for only of $5 (usually $85), giving participants access to a system of 1100 bikes in 130 locations city-wide.

Participants will also receive a free helmet.

Linking health and transportation, the program is a partnership between Boston Medical Center and the city of Boston. Officials hope the program will introduce 1,000 new members to a more active lifestyle.

Way to lead the way, Boston!
