Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How hilly is the ride?
A: This ride has an estimated 7,500 feet of climbing on Forest Service roads in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest

Q: What if I cannot make it the entire distance?
A: There are no short cuts on this ride and this event is not for the novice riders. It is challenging and the elements can be a factor in September. We will have very limited sag service.

Q: Are the roads closed to vehicle traffic?
A: No, the roads are open to vehicle traffic so you must obey all the rules of the road. Stop at stop signs and ride no more than two abreast.

Q: May I ride with one ear bud? Or two?
A: Cyclists must turn off and put away any headset or ear bud (s) connected to any electronic device capable of transmitting or playing a broadcast or recording. Distractions such as music players and radios are also not permitted. If necessary to check, use, or answer a cell phone or pager, the cyclist must first pull ofthe road or trail and stop.

Q Do I need to bring my own food on this ride?
A: The High Pass Challenge will feature three food & water stops, one of which will have a lunch style sandwich or wrap (at the half way point). In addition all riders will be treated to a post ride BBQ at the finish line open from 1-5 p.m. It is always a good idea to pack some emergency bars and plenty of water to see you through stops and if you have any special dietary requirements.

Q: Where does my entry fee go?
A: The High Pass Challenge is a fundraiser for Cascade Bicycle Club.

Q: Do both riders on a tandem need to register for the ride?
A: Yes, for services and liability reasons both riders must each complete and sign a registration form.

Q: Do I have to belong to the CBC to go on this ride?
A: No, but you receive a member discount on the entry fee if you are.

Q: Where is the best place to park? How much does it cost?
A: It will be located at the Start/Finish line - 1896 Homestead off Huntington Road. The cost is $5 per car.

Q: If I pre-register and get my packet mailed to me do I need to check in at the start line?
A: No you don't need to check in at the start. Start line opens at 7 am and close at 8 am.

Q: If I have a flat or other mechanical problems will there be someone to help me?
A: Yes - we will have mechanics on the route in set locations to assist riders BUT please be prepared to fix your own flats because mechanical service is very limited.
