It is all about biking to school this week

Our Bicycle Ambassadors have been very busy this year, giving away breakfast on the bridges, educating the public about trail safety, decorating bikes with kids  and more. This week it's all about schools! Tuesday, Sept. 24: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Green Your School Fair at  Lincoln High School

Meet other parents and educators who are working on sustainability within schools. It's fair style so you can come when you can and stay as long as you'd like. There will be a brief presentation from 7-7:30 p.m. Make sure you find our friendly Bicycle Ambassador who will be able to answer many questions about bicycling with kids!Thursday, Sept. 26: Basic Bike Commuting  at the HUB 11 a.m. - noon: Energizer Station out the HUB on the Seattle UW Campus 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.: Bike Commuting Basics Class - HUB 145 Join the class and Energizer station to learn about the essentials of riding you bike to school safely and enjoyable.
 

Friday, Sept. 27: 3:30 - 5 p.m. Tour De HuskyCome take a ride around the U-District. This fun and easy tour will showcase how to get around the area by bike, what UW offers in terms of bicycle facilities, and where to find ice cream! Meet up in front of the main entrance to the HUB . The ride will take about an hour and a half. We will end up at Hagen Dazs on University Way NE (a.k.a the Ave) where you can use your U Pass merchant discount for a sweet treat.

 
Saturday, Sept. 28: 10 a.m. - noon. Ballard Bikes to School Kick-Off Event at Salmon Bay School Playground

This Ballard multi-school event will put you in gear for year-round commuting. There are lot of fun activities planned including a Bicycle Rodeo, a bicycle maintenance station, a helmet sale and a family bikes demo. Ballard Bikes, the multi-school collaboration organizing this event, was formed to  promote active, kid-powered transportation at our schools year-round.  Find out about your school's plans for Bike/Walk to School in October and upcoming activities at this event. All kids must have an adult family member present and must be wearing a helmet in order to participate. NOTE: This event is only open to families from Adams, Loyal Heights, Salmon Bay K-8, West Woodland, Pacific Crest Montessori, Whittier and St. Alphonsus.

Saturday, Sept. 28: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Safe Kids Seattle Bike Helmet Giveaway at the Rainier Beach McDonalds
Come get a FREE child helmet fit (for kids ages 1-18), meet your local firefighters and explore a fire engine. First come first serve, quantities are limited. Children must be present to receive helmet. This giveaway is generously put on by UW Medicine and McDonalds. For questions, please contact safekids@uw.edu
