Tunnel Ride Route

The Tunnel Ride is a two loop route including both south and north bound lanes of the new tunnel AND both the upper and lower decks of the Viaduct. Ride one or both of the loops for the final public event on the Viaduct before it is demolished. *Please note the route is subject to change if safety becomes a concern.
- 12.5 miles (20.5 km) total for both loops
- 800 feet (245 m) of climbing
- Tunnel is up and down at 4-6% grade
Start line open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Family Friendly Start for kids and families will be at 10 a.m. You must enter the tunnel by 10:15 a.m. No one will be allowed in after this time.
Finish line open from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
SR 99 Tunnel – 8.5 miles (14 km)
The route will utilize both levels of the SR99 Tunnel. NOTE: this is NOT a flat ride. The tunnel descends at a 4-6% grade for 1.5 miles then climbs back up to street level at the same 4-6% grade. This section will be car-free except for emergency vehicles. Ride the new tunnel before cars have had the chance!
Alaskan Way Viaduct – 4 miles (6.5 km)
After completing the tunnel section riders will be permitted to ride on the car-free Viaduct. This will be the last public event held on the Viaduct before it is demolished, so say goodbye to one of Seattle's historic landmarks before it comes down!
Starting on Harrison St and 6th Ave. N, riders will head north on 6th Ave. N to on-ramp to head south through the new SR99 tunnel.
Riders head south on SR99 for 4 miles and then make a U-turn at S. Idaho St. Heading back north on SR99 through the tunnel exiting on Republic St.. Riders will then take a right on Dexter and a Right on Harrison St. Riders can be done at this time or take a left on Aurora Ave. heading south through the Battery St. Tunnel in the nourthbound lanes onto the top deck of the viaduct.
Riders will take the Seneca St. exit then take a right on 1st Ave. for 4 blocks to Columbia St where they will take a right and take the bottom deck of the viaduct north to Harrison St. where they will take a left to the finish line at 6th Ave. N and Harrison St. – total distance 12.5 miles all car free!
Support drivers will be on course for any major breakdowns or accidents. Dial the number on your bib if you need assistance. If an emergency occurs please dial 911.
The Outriders will be in their white and green Cascade Outrider jerseys. They are experienced volunteers and have ridden many of Cascade's events. They are available to help with minor mechanical issues, help you flag down a support vehicle, or answer questions about the route, event logistics, and riding in general. They may remind you of Cascade event rules and safe riding practices, please be respectful as they are there to keep our event safe. Wave hello as you see them along the route!
There will be a mechanic at the start/finish line to assist with minor bicycle repairs.
