Ride Description: 

We are pleased to announce Cycling Out Of Sumner (COOS) will be running a spring training series for 2019 with three paces offered (Steady 12 - 14 mph, Moderate 14 -16 mph, Brisk 16 - 18 mph).

COOS will run for thirteen Saturdays, from April 6 through June 29. COOS is a training series to build endurance and strength. The rides will incrementally increase in distance, leading up to a century. All paces will use a common route each week. 

For ride #7:   Climb the STP hill ... This is a Pierce County urban ride. We will warm up going through Puyallup and then climb "The Hill" from the STP route. After conquering that climb, we work our way through Tacoma and cross the Tacoma Narrows bridge to our turn around & lunch stop at Cutter Point Coffee in Gig Harbor. The way back includes the Scott Pierson trail, passes Cheney Stadium and the Foss Waterway.

Potty Stops: Restrooms at the start,  mile 8, 22, 29 (lunch available for purchase) 45.

If you are unable to sustain the pace, you are encouraged to drop to the slower pace if available.

Please register for the ride using the red "Register Now" button at the top of this page. Registration is not mandatory but it allows us to print the rider list beforehand and saves time at the ride start.  On-line registration closes two hours prior to ride time, if you decide to ride after that we will have a waiver sheet for you to sign manually.   

New riders, we are very happy to have you with us.  Please read the New Rider link, above, and keep in mind that a helmet is required for all Cascade rides. 

Riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire.  Everyone should carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. We will regroup after climbs and as needed.

Arrive at least 30 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready, sign the waiver, and listen to the S.M.A.R.T. briefing. This allows us to have an on-time departure.

Be considerate and have full fenders including mud flaps if roads are wet or a prediction of rain is in the forecast.

A route map and cue sheet are on the Ride With GPS link, below.  If you want a cue sheet please print and bring it.  The ride leader will not have extra copies.

Cancellation Policy: If needed, a weather cancellation will be posted two hours prior to the Comments section, below, and the ride leader will not be at the start. Please check here before leaving for the ride.

Thanks for deciding to join COOS #7 tomorrow. Please be ready and in your
group pace by 7:45 so we can do a rider count and ride briefing. If you are
unable to keep the posted pace or you have a mechanical issue you will need
to self-navigate back to the start (print out a cue sheet, the Ride leader
will not have an extra copy) or you can drop back to a slower group pace.
