MUMPS: Recovery Monday Clockwise Lake Loop (Moderate)
If you are new, please read our newcomer information.
We’ll ride the Lake Washington loop route clockwise from Log Boom Park. There is a four hour parking restriction in the park, so if you are concerned about exceeding the time limit you can park on NE 175th St. before the entrance to the park.
We’ll warmup with a climb up Juanita at the 1.1 mile mark and continue to Kirkland via Market stopping at Marina Park for a restroom break. From Kirkland we continue south to Bellevue and on to Renton with a stop at Coulon Park before circling the southern tip of Lk. WA and Boeing Renton turning north to Seward Park along Lk WA to our final stop at the Leschi Starbucks for a quick snack, about 20 min. Our final stretch takes us by the Arboretum, behind UW Stadium, through neighborhood streets, and up the Burke Gilman trail back to Log Boom.
This is a moderate paced ride so be prepared for up to 16 mph on the flats; faster downhill and slower uphill. Riders are welcome to climb the hills at their own pace as we will regroup at the tops. When on multi-use trails we will observe the trail speed limit.
Contact the ride leader if you plan to join the group at a point other than the starting location (in case we change the route). Depending on weather and mood of the group, the route may be shortened to cross the lake via the I-90 trail or the WA 520 trail.
Riders should bring snacks and ample hydration. There are 3 planned restroom stops, but only a 20 minute coffee stop at Starbucks later in the ride. Restrooms available at the start.
If rain is expected or the roads are wet, please be considerate of other riders' comfort and safety by using full fenders that extend at/below the wheel hub. You may still ride with us without them, but if you are spraying other riders you will need to drop to the back of the group.
Please RSVP by clicking the red "Register Now" button under the ride title above. This saves time at the start and enables the ride leader to contact you in case of a change. No need to unregister if you aren't able to attend, and if you don't want to pre-register you can sign the waiver at the ride start. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for briefing and ride prep so that we can leave on time.
Forecast for rain, snow, ice/frost or other unsafe riding conditions will be cause for cancellation, in which case the ride leader will not be at the start. A cancellation will be posted (in comment section, below) at least 2 hours before the start.
Please come with the equipment and know-how to take care of your own flats and mechanicals and with a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there (an ORCA card or someone to call). If you have a problem the group will stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own.
