Free Group Ride
Get on Your Bike, A Social Ride for Newer and Returning Cyclists
Event has already happened.
Just starting to ride or get back on your bike? Beginning to be comfortable riding on roads? Now is the time when you want to take advantage of nicer weather to ride for health, fitness or just fun! Here is your opportunity to further develop your skills, become more familiar with your bike, and learn to enjoy riding in a group on a variety of trails and bike lanes.
This is a social ride with experienced ride leaders to help you get into biking or just to gain more experience. The route consists of trails and bike lanes on a variety of terrain. It includes some hills so that you can use your gears and develop skills riding up hill. Everyone can ride the hills at their own pace and we always regroup at the top and before any turns so you need not be concerned about being left behind.
You are expected to have a bike that is in good working order and the basic fitness level to be able to ride for a distance at 10 – 12 mph on flat ground..
Route - This is the fourth "Get On Your Bike" ride with a different and longer route. We will start and finish at the Chainline Brewing Company in Kirkland, next door to the new Google Campus and near the Cross Kirkland Corridor. The route takes us first to Marina Park for a rest stop and then north through some Kirkland neighborhoods and over to the Sammamish River Trail (SRT) at Wilmot Park. We return along the SRT and then climb Old Redmond Road to the top of Rose Hill, crossing over I-405 via a pedestrian bridge to return to the start. After the ride, join us at the brewery for refreshments and more conversation about biking. Please download the route or print the cue sheet.
Bring snacks as we will not have a food stop on the route but there will be a water/restroom stops along the way with time to eat whatever you bring.
Parking - Please park at the south end of the parking lot.
Ride Registration - Arrive at least 20 minutes before ride start to get ready to ride, do one last check of your bike, and sign the waiver. To make things go quicker at the start, register for the ride by signing into your Cascade account, or by first creating one, and then clicking on the "Register" button at the top of this page. There are no restrooms at the start but we will stop at Marina Park in the first mile.
Weather - Showers or more severe weather will cancel the ride. Ride cancellation will be announced in the comments section at least two hours before start time and the ride leaders will not be at the start.
