Racing Around Oregon, and from Oceanside to Annapolis

Sat. Feb 22, 2014 4:00pm

Despite our consistently drippy weather, the Pacific Northwest has perhaps the deepest bench of long distance cycling enthusiasts in North America if not the world. Join us for two perspectives on this grueling yet rewarding form of bicycle competition:

  • High Performance Cycling’s David Longdon will discuss the fun and camaraderie that are inherent to ultra racing in a team format.  Although doing an ultra race might seem out of reach, it is perfectly doable in a team format by anyone who can ride a one-day STP. He will talk through High Performance Cycling’s success at the 2013 Race Across Oregon, and what’s involved in a team ultra race.
  • Apex/CycleU’s Chris Ragsdale will talk through his successful rookie attempt in the 2013 Race Across America (RAAM) in which he was the top-finishing American. Chris will share the trials and tribulations of this annual epic, and what it takes to complete "the world’s toughest bicycle race.” With slides, video, and the bikes that made it happen, he will bring ultracycling's greatest race to life.

David has twice competed in the 500+ mile Race Across Oregon as part of winning 4-man teams.

Chris has an extensive ultra competition resume including being a 5-time National 24 hr winner and record holder, holding the 1000km road world record, and being the fastest American finisher at the 2011 Paris-Brest-Paris.
