SEATTLE, WASH. January 5, 2015 – As we celebrate our 12-year partnership in 2015, Group Health has recommitted their support of Cascade Bicycle Club in a big way.

Not only will Group Health continue as title sponsor of the Seattle to Portland Classic, they’re also partnering with us to support and strengthen the Major Taylor Project, the Bike Everywhere Breakfast in May and the statewide advocacy summit later in the year.

“We are very grateful for their renewed support of Cascade. They’re not just investing in our events and programs, they’re investing in better bicycling in the whole region and improving lives through bicycling,” stated Elizabeth Kiker, Cascade’s executive director.

Group Health first partnered with Cascade in 2003 as the title sponsor of Cascade’s Seattle to Portland Classic. Over the years, Group Health support also helped organize events like Flying Wheels, RSVP and the Commute Challenge, and Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation programs such as the “Give 3 Feet” campaign, summer camps, Basics of Bicycling and the Major Taylor program.

“We’re looking forward to continuing the partnership between Group Health and Cascade, and believe that whether your choice of physical fitness is by wheel, foot or fin, the most important thing you can do for your health is get active,” said Scott Armstrong, Group Health President and Chief Executive Officer. “The 2015 Group Health Seattle to Portland is a great way for individuals and teams to set a goal that both challenges and empowers them.”

The 2015 Group Health Seattle to Portland presented by Alaska Airlines will feature a few exciting changes this year, including a new route segment that will take riders through Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Inside the military base, riders will not only enjoy comfortable, low-car roads, the military will display various military vehicles for a unique inside-look.

And, with the renewed support of Group Health, riders will receive a "Finisher" apparel item of their choosing (t-shirt, hat, etc) at the finish line in Portland.

To top it all off, riders will receive a free meal at the finishing line festival in Portland. Registration for the Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic presented by Alaska Airlines opens for Cascade members on January 13 and on February 10 for the general public.
