Leading Cascade: one month in

Image

In her first month here at Cascade, our new executive director, Elizabeth Kiker, has been extremely busy meeting with partnering organizations, elected officials and our membership. She has also braved the Seattle weather riding her pink Waterford around town in a record amount of rainfall.  Here's what she has to say about her first month at Cascade:

One of the best parts of my job so far has been meeting the cyclists in Seattle. As I ride to meetings, tour trails and learn the on-street network, I've been meeting members, volunteers and cyclists. On my interview, riding on the Burke-Gilman trail, I saw a couple harvesting blackberries (enough to make wine!) and another group stopped to enjoy the plum harvest on the trail.

In my first few weeks here, I've asked for directions, and many people have ridden me to my destination. I've been lost and people have pointed me back in the right direction. I've ridden with a ride leader andwitnessed Cascade's dedication to safety and fun.

In addition, I've seen lots that we can do together to make the Puget Sound region more bicycle friendly, and many projects that have successfully been worked on and led by the strong bicyclists and their supporters in the region.

There are so many reasons I enjoy cycling; the way it connects me immediately to the people, land and network of Seattle and Puget Sound has been an enormous joy as I learn to know and love this area.

We're working on how we, at Cascade, can be more responsive to you, our members, volunteers and supporters. I'd love to hear your ideas --- comment below or drop me a line at elizabeth.kiker@cascadebicycleclub.org. We only succeed because of your support.
