Washingtonians in Top 10 of The Takeaway Bike Haiku Challenge

Earlier this month, The Takeaway launched the Takeaway Bike Challenge,  inviting listeners to get creative and write a haiku about bicycling.

The prize: the top 10 poems would be read out loud and receive a Takeaway-branded bike helmet.

After receiving more than 1,200 submissions, The Takeaway today announced their Top 10 winners. Among them were two poems by local KUOW listeners.

Seattle’s Mimi Boothby wrote:

He gave me a bike
lovingly, now he is gone.
I still ride with him.

And Peter Smith wrote:

A new world opens:
Faces, sounds, seasonal change
At the speed of bike.

Congrats Challenge winners!
