Free Group Ride
SHE BIKES- Seattle Cycle Sirens; #7 - Group Riding 101 Clinic with a South Lake WA Loop (Steady)
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
Answer the call to ride and join the Seattle Cycle Sirens (SCS) for our FREE Clinic-and-a-ride event! This is part of the SCS's effort to host women-friendly training rides this summer to help riders prepare for group ride events like Cycle the WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere), Bike-n-Brews El Norte, Kitsap Color Classic and more.
The clinic/talk will start at 9:00 a.m. at the parking lot of the South Bellevue Park & Ride. We will spend about 45 minutes covering topics like pre-ride bike checks, road riding basics, bicycle maintenance, and group riding etiquette. After that, we will go for a ride! This is the South Lake Washington Loop and this week's ride will take us on new roads and some challenging new inclines. This route, a favorite of Cascade's Ride Leaders, will be 25 miles at a STEADY pace with fun, rolling hills to develop our skills and confidence.
The Ride Leader(s) for this route will be leading a STEADY paced ride (12-14 mph on the flats with no headwinds or tailwinds). Those who wish to ride at a faster pace are welcome to do so, but it will then become a self-guided ride for them. Slower riders are also welcome to take the route at their own pace as this is a NO-DROP ride and we will regroup as needed along the way.
The clinic/talk will begin at 9 a.m. and the ride will begin at 9:45 a.m., so please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to ready your bike, sign the waiver and participate in the SMART safety briefing. (We've covered a lot in the prior 6 weeks of rides. This will be a review of the things we've talked about as well as an open session to answer any cycling questions you might still have.)
Riders are expected to have the following with them: a properly fitted helmet, water, a spare tube, a pump and other tools to change a flat tire.
The GPS file for this route is here: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/9754180
A .pdf copy of the cue sheet is available for download from this page. A small number of printed cue sheets will be available at the ride start.
