Ride Description:

On these warm summer days, why settle for just a coffee run when you can enjoy a coffee-flavored GELATO run instead? Or salted caramel! Join us on our continuing series of area ice cream and dessert samplings as we head to Sirena Gelato in Kirkland, famous for its intensely flavored Italian-style gelato.

We'll leave from the Issaquah P&R Overflow Lot (at the SE corner of SR900 and Newport Way NW, across from the parking structure) at 10:00 am. Please arrive no later than 9:45 am to hear the safety briefing and route discussion. The pace will be high Moderate (~16 mph on the flats). See http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5399305 for details about the route, its profile and cue sheet. Riders should print the cue sheet and have a spare tube, tools and the know-how to fix a flat. Restrooms are located at the start.

The ride leader will not be at the ride start should weather meet the definition for cancellation (showers). Ride cancellation will be announced in the Comments Section below at least two (2) hours prior to the ride start. If you have questions about the weather, please call 206-909-7742, preferably before you leave for the ride.

Q: What's the difference between ice cream and gelato?

A: Italian style gelato prepared by Sirena is made with whole milk instead of heavy cream, which results in much less fat and calories than traditional ice cream. Their gelato also contains far less air content than ice cream and is not frozen as deeply, resulting in a denser texture and more deeply satisfying flavor. Now, aren't you glad you asked!
