Helmet Sales Report
Community center sales a success!
by Peter Luycx, Interim Education Director
Getting helmets on kids’ heads is a major focus of the Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation. From May 2003 until the end of April 2004, we sold 787 low-cost helmets and gave away an additional 467 helmets through various organizations. That’s more than 1,200 helmets, most of which were sold to children. No doubt a few of these have saved a life.
This year we hope to sell more helmets than ever, thanks in part to our cooperation with Seattle Parks and Recreation, which has started fitting and selling helmets for $10 in six community centers around town, every third Saturday of each month through September. At the first sale in May, 217 helmets were sold!
The next community center helmet sale is scheduled for July 17. For a complete schedule, email us or call 206-523-1952.
We are still fitting and selling helmets for $10 during Bike Saturday/Sundays on Lake Washington Blvd., at the entrance of Seward Park. Helmet sales in July will take place on July 10 and 18. If you are interested in volunteering for helmet sales, please contact Peter Luyckx at 206-523-1952. We don’t just need helmet fitters. We also need volunteers who can help sell helmets, so that fitters can focus on fitting as many helmets as there are vulnerable heads flitting by. We also need volunteers to pick up and drop off helmets at the office before and after the event. Thanks!
