Josh is a lifelong bike nut and really enjoys helping folks to ride their bikes more often and for more types of trips. He especially likes helping people overcome their personal barriers to biking. Josh has enthusiastically ridden and worked on bikes from a young age. He started commuting to school by bike in the second grade and has been a year-round daily commuter and utility rider since moving to Seattle in 1999. After working in the bike industry for four years, Josh studied the built environment, urban planning and bicycling in his masters and PhD research.
Immediately before joining the staff at Cascade, Josh spent three years working for Washington Bikes where he ran a bike education and encouragement program at four local colleges. He was an active member of the Puget Sound Regional Council’s Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and has been actively involved with Sound Transit and King County Metro’s bicycle programs. Josh served on the Safe Routes to School National Partnership Steering Committee for three years and is currently a member of the Partnership’s Program and Policy Committee.
Josh is an avid international traveler and believer in cross-cultural exchange. When he’s not doing bike-related things, you might find him traveling, working on the family cabin, doing home-improvement projects, cooking, reading, photographing, gardening, hiking, skiing, wood carving or volunteering on trail-building and maintenance projects.
