Friday, May 15 This Friday, bike up and be counted! It's Starbucks Bike to Work Day. Cascade Bicycle Club brings you this annual event, which is the most biked day of the year. Look for one of our 44 Commute Stations across the area and stop by for super-soft T-shirts, hot coffee, excellent swag and good community cheer. Seattleites turn out in some of the highest numbers across the country for National Bike to Work Day, and we're looking to blow the top off the 2008 record of 23,000 riders. Invite your co-workers, your friends, your neighbors and everyone you know to join you on Friday to show the world: It's how we roll!
Host a DIY Commute Station

That's right, we've cracked 10k riders in the Group Health Commute Challenge. We're nearly halfway there, but it's not too late to get in on the contest. Teams can register any time in the month to compete and win prizes. A big shout-out to all the dedicated team captains who are working hard to make this program a success across more than 700 companies and organizations. Thank you for recruiting new riders, for making it fun and for helping make bike commuting mainstream. Four days only: Good news bicycle commuters! Now your voice can heard loud and clear. When you join Cascade Bicycle Club, you'll be part of a powerful force for bicycle commuting, bicycle advocacy, and bicycle education. We're at key decision-making tables, representing the interests of bike commuters like you. We're pushing policies and actions to ensure that riding a bike for transportation or for fun is convenient, safe and accessible to everyone. We love that you ride. Together we can do even more to improve conditions for bicycle commuters. Join us and put the power of Cascade Bicycle Club to work for you! Four days only: Friday, May 15 through Monday, May 18 Save the Date: May 21, noon The Environmental Protection Agency is holding only two public hearings nationwide on its recent decision to regulate global warming pollutants, and one of them is in Seattle. This rally is to show support for EPA's plan to declare emissions of greenhouse gases a danger to public health and welfare, and we want to get as many people as possible to send a message that it's time for us to deal with climate pollution. This is a great opportunity for national press coverage, since the EPA is only having two hearings nationwide. [RSVP here...] Help show the EPA that global warming is a threat to public health and needs to be dealt with now! BIKE ADVOCACY NEWS As we prepare for the Bike to Work After Party in Ballard this Friday, testimony on the "Missing Link" by city project managers continues in front of Seattle's hearing examiner. Ballard Oil, Salmon Bay Sand and Gravel, the Ballard Chamber of Commerce contend that there will be an "environmental impact" of completing the break in the bicycle and pedestrian trail to the Ballard Locks, and completing it to Golden Gardens, that will put them out of business. Meanwhile, we continue to hear from bicyclists who have injuries and close calls through this corridor. Join us at "Advocacy Alley" on Friday at the Bike to Work Day After Party to hear the latest. Marymoor Connector Trail Grand Opening
Help Create Bikeable Neighborhoods Over time, Seattle neighborhoods have come to define the city's unique character. The great neighborhoods we're familiar with today reflect a history of planning efforts by community members and city leaders. As Seattle prepares for light rail to begin service this year, the city is working with communities to update existing neighborhood plans, beginning with N. Beacon Hill, North Rainier, and MLK Jr. @ Holly, to develop a vision for the future of these neighborhoods. The City's planning efforts will be shaped by the voices of the community, so make sure your voice is heard! Given the focus on light rail, transportation will inevitably be a major component of the plans. Attend one of the upcoming neighborhood planning sessions and be the bike advocate for your community, ensuring that our neighborhood plans are laying the foundation for bikeable and walkable communities. June 11 The first round of STP late fees kicks in on June 11. The event is almost 70% sold already and going strong. Don't delay your registration and miss the 30th anniversary ride! [more...] Saturday, June 13 Come out for Washington State's largest century ride! Flying Wheels starts and ends from Marymoor Park in Redmond. Route options range from 25 to 100 miles, so there is something for everyone. July 24 - 25 The top track racers in the country will arrive in Redmond in late July to compete for part of a $15,000 cash purse. This is one of the best bike racing spectator events in the country!
