Raise your voice before Governor Inslee eliminates funding for bicycling

On Saturday, the Seattle Times broke the story that Governor Inslee is considering implementing a low-carbon fuel standard. Simultaneously, this action would eliminate more than $235 million for biking improvements statewide, including millions for Safe Routes to School.

We shouldn’t have to choose between emission standards and giving our kids a safe way to bicycle to school.

Tell Governor Inslee not to back down from the historic investments in bicycling.

The transportation revenue package—a bill that funded bicycling and walking at historically high levels—included a “poison pill.” The bill states that if the Governor implements a low carbon fuel standard by executive order, almost $2 billion set aside for walking, bicycling and transit will be lost.

This funding in the transportation bill is a vital tool to fight climate change. The choice between investing in climate solutions and investing in active transportation is a false one. We need bold investments in both.

While we applaud the governor's commitment to combating climate change, it should not come at the cost of all of the funding for bicycling he and the legislature just approved.

Contact Governor Inslee today and ask him to maintain approved funding for bicycling.
