Pro-Bike Candidates Fare Well in Local Primaries

Winning with 63 and 59 percent respectively, both King County Parks Levies were endorsed by the regions voters. The renewal levy will continue to maintain County Parks at the current level while the second expansion levy will, among other things, provide significant resources for the expansion of the regional multi-use trails network.

Projects that will be funded and constructed in the near-term include paving the East Lake Sammamish Trail and reconstructing the Burke-Gilman Trail through Lake Forest Park. The latter may be completed as early as next fall thanks to both the passage of the expansion levy and Cascade’s successful challenge of Lake Forest Park’s Ord. 951.

Elsewhere, Cascade endorsed candidates were successful in nearly all of their elections, though some are still underdogs going into November. Of particular importance are seats in Bellevue, Mercer Island and Lake Forest Park where pro-bike policies go wanting for lack of allies.

Major progress throughout the region has largely been the result of putting the right people in the right offices and working with them to make the right decisions. Help us continue that trend in your community by supporting candidates that care about bicycling as much as you do.
