Calendar for November 2001

Helmets are required on all Cascade Bicycle Club rides. All the rides are classified according to pace and the type of services provided by the ride leader. In order to pick the rides that suit your skills and energy level, please view the pace guidelines and ride classifications.

Cascade Bicycle Club does not sponsor or endorse any non-bicycling activities that people may participate in while on these rides. You are responsible for your conduct and decisions while on a Cascade ride.

Cascade membership and activities are open to everyone able and willing to participate in a safe and cooperative manner and in support of the purposes of the club.

It is not the practice of the Cascade Bicycle Club to exclude anyone from a club activity as long as they behave in a safe and cooperative manner.

More "Cycle Tuesdays"

Lights required October thru April. Year-round training rides for one-day STP riders. Rides stress safety, fitness and group riding skills. Fast paceline with some sprints from Renton to surrounding areas. Large turnout splits into faster/slower groups. (There will not be a ride on Thanksgiving Day)!

Lights required! Northend-based training rides to prepare riders for STP and other rides. Large turnout splits into faster/slower groups. Usual post-ride meal/drinks at the Grillhouse. Please note: There will be no ride on 11/22, Thanksgiving Day.

FRUMPS: Cycle a Southwest Loop

We will follow the Duwamish River upstream to Ft. Dent in Tukwila. We'll leave the river and go up the hill to SeaTac and Burien (where we will have lunch) before returning to Alki via Fauntleroy. Terminal 5 Access is about 500 ft. south of Salty's on Harbor Ave. Take Harbor Ave. Exit from West Seattle Freeway, go through the red arches and meet by the restrooms.

Langley Treats

Meet at the Mukilteo ferry dock by 9:15 to catch the 9:30 boat to Whidbey Island. We will ride to the bakery in Langley and back to the ferry dock. Bring money for parking, ferry and bakery goodies.

Kids' Ride to Logboom Park

Kids, bring your parents for a bike ride. We will ride north on the Burke-Gilman Trail to Tracy Owen Station near Kenmore. We will play there for about 15 minutes and then return to Matthews Beach. Matthews Beach parking lot is near NE 93rd & Sandpoint Way NE. For questions, please call us before 8:00pm.

A rural ride to Orting via Enumclaw and Buckley. Directions to start: From Hwy 18, take Auburn/Black Diamond Rd Exit. Park & Ride is just west (left) of Hwy 18 on Auburn/Black Diamond Rd. Ride is offered jointly with the Mountaineers.

Route and distance to be determined by weather and group. While pace will be predominantly "strenuous," it will be "super-strenuous" at times. Paceline skills or willingness to learn paceline skills desirable. Bring food. NO FOOD STOPS.

Island Hopping--Lopez Island

November marks the debut of a new series of rides called "Island Hopping." These rides are somewhat complicated due to travel time, ferry schedules, etc., but the rewards are HUGE in scenery, wildlife, fresh air, hilly workouts, character building and fun! Please contact ride leaders well in advance and include fax number or e-mail address so they can send you complete pre-ride information.

Start location is near Ronald McDonald House - northeast of Univ. Village at the Burke- Gilman Trail. A morning ramble through the scenic northwest neighborhoods of Blue Ridge, Magnolia, and Ballard Locks. Great fun with the rest of the day to play. No services.

A lakeshore route via Beaux Arts and Medina to Kirkland for a food stop. Luther Burbank Park is on the north side of I-90. Take Exit #7 to SE 26th St and 84th Ave SE.

Saints & Sinners

A fun afternoon ride for those who attend church in the morning (the saints), or are recovering from last night (the sinners). No need to identify your category. We ride at high-moderate to low-brisk pace. Stop afterwards for a bite and brew.

A fun north Lake Washington loop ride with a food stop enroute. Join us in Kenmore - or meet us at Coffee Crew (NE 45th St. at 36th Ave NE) at approximately 10:45, or at Pert's Deli (Leschi Park) at approximately 11:15. Distance and pace will vary to suit group. Check with leaders if weather is questionable.

TREATS: South Lake from Beacon Hill

Ride down Cheasty Blvd, cross on I-90 to Mercer Island (we'll circle it depending upon weather), then cross the East Channel Bridge to the Lake Washington Bike Trail for lunch at Coulon Park. Back via Rainier Ave, Carkeek Drive, and Beacon Ave. From I-5, take the Columbia Way Exit, turn left at Spokane St, 3 blocks to Beacon Ave, right turn at fire station. Park in center of median across from community center.

Take Exit 9 from I-90, drive north two blocks. Park & Ride is on your right. We'll ride over I-90 to East Mercer Island; ride clockwise around Mercer Island, get back on I-90 west and take Lake Washington Blvd to Leschi for a late lunch. Ride back to I-90, and head east to return to South Bellevue Park & Ride.

Resurrection Sundays Go Off-Road

Pull out your mountain bikes or other off-road bikes. We're going up the Snoqualmie Valley Trail to the Falls and back. Take I-90 to Preston and Preston - Fall City Road to Fall City. Turn right; cross the river, and turn left on Highway 203. Continue to Carnation. Turn right on Entwhistle St. Park is 1/4 mile on the right.

A scenic loop ride along the south Sound through Burien and Normandy Park to the Kent Valley to Kent for a food stop. First half of the ride is hilly and a moderate pace. Second half is flat with more moderate/brisk pace.

L.O.S.T. (Lap of Seattle Tour)

One big lap of Seattle. Magnolia, West Seattle, Seward Park, Arboretum, Sand Point, Blue Ridge, Ballard. See them all in a day. Ride leader has limited South Seattle navigational skills. Bring your sense of humor and enough food to sustain you throughout the ride.

Country Ride Series-Maltby Loop

Start at the best café in the Puget Sound area. We'll ride through the Snohomish Valley, including Ebey Island and the farmlands between Everett and Monroe. Bring snack food for along the way but save room for a great lunch at the café. In case of heavy rain, we'll have brunch at the café instead. Directions: Drive north on SR9 from Woodinville to SR524. Turn right, continue 1-2 miles. Café on the left. Park in gravel lot far rear.

When you enter Seward Park, turn right note the tennis courts ahead of you and park in the lot next to them. We will ride along Lake Washington,then take the Burke-Gilman Trail into Ballard. After crossing the Locks, we will eat at Fishermen's Terminal before returning along Elliot Bay and Beacon Hill to Seward Park.

Our annual Thanksgiving Day ride and potluck. Now that she's back from biking the world, Susan provides the turkey (no, that's not David) and you provide the rest. We ride while Susan cooks then come back to a great feast with games, stories, football and whatever. If it rains, meet at 1:00 for dinner. RSVP to Susan to let her know what you are bringing, or call David for ride questions. You're welcome to come just for the potluck.

Southend Fall Colors

We'll enjoy the fall colors of the Green River Valley by touring south along the River and through the outskirts of Auburn to a lunch stop. Return via Interurban and Green River Trails. Driving south on I-5, take Exit 154 onto I-405. Take Exit #1 and continue north a short distance on Interurban. Turn right into Ft. Dent, bear left at traffic circle, then cross over the bridge and park in the lot on the right near the restrooms.

A unique route to Auburn via the hills of Fairwood. See and ride the Soos Creek Trail. Lunch in Auburn with a flat return via the Green River and Interurban Trails. From northbound I-405, take exit #1, go left on Interurban Ave, right on Ft Dent Wy, around traffic island to the park. From southbound I-405, take exit #1, go straight ahead at light onto Ft Dent Wy, around island to the park. MEET BY RESTROOMS.
