Calendar for July 2002

Helmets are required on all Cascade Bicycle Club rides. All the rides are classified according to pace and the type of services provided by the ride leader. In order to pick the rides that suit your skills and energy level, please view the pace guidelines and ride classifications.

Cascade Bicycle Club does not sponsor or endorse any non-bicycling activities that people may participate in while on these rides. You are responsible for your conduct and decisions while on a Cascade ride.

Cascade membership and activities are open to everyone able and willing to participate in a safe and cooperative manner and in support of the purposes of the club.

It is not the practice of the Cascade Bicycle Club to exclude anyone from a club activity as long as they behave in a safe and cooperative manner.

MUMPS: Head Up North

A fun loop ride in south Snohomish County with a food stop enroute. Distance and pace may vary to suit weather conditions and group. Check with leaders if weather appears questionable. Park is located at 61st Ave NE & 175th St in Kenmore at the north end of Lake Washington.

Lights required October thru April! Year-round training rides for one-day STP riders. Rides stress safety, fitness, and group riding skills. Fast paceline with some sprints from Renton to surrounding areas. Large turnout splits into faster/slower groups.

PDST Admiral Tuesday Night Ride

This ride will be every Tuesday night during Daylight Saving Time. It's a fitness ride to be ridden hard and to push yourself - but not to be pushed! The pace will be moderate to brisk in the spring, progressing to strenuously brisk in the summer. The routes will vary. Two common routes will be to and around Magnolia through Myrtle Edwards Park, and to and around Mercer Island through the I-90 tunnel. Hamilton Viewpoint Park is on California Ave SW in the north Admiral District.

STP/RSVP/Long Rides Prep

Rides designed to get you in shape for some of our longer tours. Rides begin with brief orientation on varous aspects of training and preparation needed to ride a successful STP, RSVP or other long ride. Riders are expected to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature or mechanical problems throw at them. Stanwood is approx. one hour north of Seattle on a good traffic day. NOTE: CALL RIDE LEADER TO CONFIRM RIDE.

Alki Wednesday Night Series

Ride leaves promptly at 7:05pm. HEADLIGHTS AND HELMETS ARE ALWAYS REQUIRED! Anyone showing up without headlights will not be able to participate in our ride. Route varies every week. This is a great mid-week training ride for STP and RSVP. Ride pace will be moderate to high-brisk. Pace will be brisk if riders follow the rules of the road. Dinner stop at Pegasus Pizza after the ride.

Picnic Point

A nice little Independence Day jaunt to scenic Picnic Point Beach, south of Mukilteo. We'll ride at the higher end of moderate. There is a somewhat long climb out of the Point and a couple of short steep hills. Lunch after at the Beach Café in Edmonds. Take Exit 177 from I-5, go west on Hwy 104 (Edmonds Way), turn left at Dayton (the signal before the ferry toll booth), follow it around to the lot just past Anthony's Restaurant (where you can get anything you want, excepting Anthony).

Kids, bring your parents for a bike ride! We'll ride north on B-GT to Tracy Owen Station near Kenmore. We'll play there for about 15 minutes and return to Matthews Beach. Questions? Please call before 8:00pm.

Let's Attend the Olympic Music Festival

Be at the Edmonds Dock at 8:15 for an 8:40 boat. We'll enjoy a scenic rural ride to hear the "music-in-the-barn" held on a farm near Quilcene. July 7 is an all-Mozart program, featuring a string quartet, quintet and a string piece with a clarinet. Barn seating is $22 in advance-$24 at the gate. Lawn seating is $12 in advance-$14 at the gate. Advance purchase recommended to assure a barn seat. Call 206/527-8839 for tickets. If it rains, I can arrange car pooling to festival. Bring money for ferry, food and admittance. NOTE: Check Ferry Schedule after June 15 for 8:40 boat--call me if it's not listed. Summer schedule will be in effect.

Two County Country Special

A scenic backroads loop with little traffic through parts of Lewis and Cowlitz counties. Starting in Adna we'll head south to Castle Rock for lunch. Take I-5 to Exit 77 (SR-6). Head west for 4.5 miles to Adna. Turn right on Bunker Creek Rd, then right on Diekman Rd to the park entrance. If weather looks uncertain call ride leader day before for confirmation.

Gas Works Thursday Social

PLEASE NOTE: NO RIDE ON THE 4TH! Explore Seattle's backstreets at a comfortable pace with a sociable crowd. Every Thursday, a regular crowd of old friends and a curious crowd of new friends ride as far as the evening light permits, venturing places seldom seen via routes seldom taken. We don't go looking for a challenge (we'll never ride the Counterbalance), but neither do we avoid one (we've topped a hill or two and waited for the sightseers among us). Bring money for dinner afterward. Heavy rain means we eat early.

Black Diamond

Ride starts on the Cedar Valley River Trail and continues on roads over rolling hills through lush farmland and river valleys. We will stop for lunch at the Black Diamond Bakery. From I-405 take Exit 4 (SR-169) onto the Maple Valley Hwy towards Enumclaw. Park is on the right just beyond the freeway. Meet in the parking lot nearest to the Community Center.

Bagbalm Not Included/A RAW Training Series: The Crystal Mountain Hill Climb

Are you RAW material? You will be after this ride!! Whether you're participating in Ride Around Washington or not, come join in as we ride through some beautiful mountains and climb a few big hills up to the base area of the Crystal Mountain ski resort. Yes, be prepared to climb and also to descend. Most of the route is rolling terrain going up the upper White River valley with a couple of long hills including the ski resort access road, the Crystal Mountain Hill Climb. This is an out and back ride; so, once we've climbed up, we get to come back down. There will be a possible lunch stop in Greenwater on the descent. From I-405 in Renton, take the Maple Valley-Enumclaw Hwy 169 exit and go east on Hwy 169 all the way to Enumclaw (about 20 miles). Turn left on Griffin Ave, then right on Railroad St (before the hotel on the right) following the signs for Public Parking a block or two off Griffin - park in the lot on the right.

Please join us for a joint ride with the Evergreen Tandem Club on a scenic rural route through Maltby, Snohomish, and Monroe. We'll stop at the Snohomish Pie Company, so bring money for goodies and also bring your own food. Post-ride brew and eats at Redhook Brewery's Forecasters Pub. From 405 take eastbound Exit #23 (522 toward Monroe and Wenatchee) to the Woodinville exit. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and go to NE 175th St. Turn right again then turn left at the stop sign onto 202. Cross the river and take the next left into the Northshore Sports Complex parking lot.

NOTE 10AM START! Green River/Interurban Trails to Auburn, then up Peasley Canyon Rd and around Steel Lake to Dash Point Rd. Past Brown's Point we'll drop down to Fife, then onto the Puyallup River Levee Rd and into Sumner for lunch. Back via Interurban/ Green River Trails. From Hwy 167, exit at 84th and N Central, go left (south) onto N Central then right (west) onto James St. Follow James until it turns left (south) and becomes Russell Rd. Turn left into parking lot and meet by the restrooms. From I-5 take the Kent-Des Moines exit and go east on Kent-Des Moines Rd down the hill to Kent, then left at light on Meeker St. Cross river, turn left on Russell Rd then right into parking lot by the restrooms.
