Calendar for July 2001

Helmets are required on all Cascade Bicycle Club rides. All the rides are classified according to pace and the type of services provided by the ride leader. In order to pick the rides that suit your skills and energy level, please view the pace guidelines and ride classifications.

Cascade Bicycle Club does not sponsor or endorse any non-bicycling activities that people may participate in while on these rides. You are responsible for your conduct and decisions while on a Cascade ride.

Cascade membership and activities are open to everyone able and willing to participate in a safe and cooperative manner and in support of the purposes of the club.

It is not the practice of the Cascade Bicycle Club to exclude anyone from a club activity as long as they behave in a safe and cooperative manner.

Cascade Advanced Training Series--18+mph

Just a light tune-up for 1-day STP riders. Route depends on the weather. Pace will vary and may be super-strenuous if conditions are favorable. Paceline skills or willingness to learn paceline riding desirable. Leader will want,need, to rest periodically. Bring food! Well-behaved former "animals" welcome.

Please note that this ride does not leave from Gasworks Park! A fun afternoon ride for those who attend church in the morning (the saints) or are recovering from last night (the sinners). No need to identify your category. We ride at high moderate to low brisk pace. Stop afterwards for a bite and brew.

Megathon

Join Gary Keller and the Washington Triumph to Tragedy Megathon group as they ride from their Lake Washington swim location to Ashford for their climb of Mt. Rainier later in the week. We'll follow a route out May Valley Rd to Issaquah-Hobart Rd to Ravensdale and Enumclaw where we'll pick up the RAMROD route to Ashford. Ride as much of the route as you wish before turning around or arranging your own pick up. Leader will turn around in time to be back to the Bellevue area before dark.

High heart rates--low car density! This month the Scenic Training Series steps it up a bit. These are fast, mid-day training rides for RAMROD on scenic, low traffic roads in eastern Snohomish County between Monroe, Snohomish, Sultan, Lake Roesiger, Granite Falls. Map may be provided on some rides. We'll attempt to be a stay-together group with some paceline riding at times.

    Explore Seattle's backstreets at a comfortable pace with a sociable crowd. Every Thursday, a regular crowd of old friends and a curious crowd of new friends ride as far as evening light permits, venturing places seldom seen via routes seldom taken. We don't go looking for a challenge (we'll never ride the Counterbalance), but neither do we avoid one (we've topped a hill or two and waited for the sightseers among us). Bring money for dinner afterward, usually at Barlee's in Fremont. Heavy rain means we eat early.

For the safety of all riders, and by reducing the pace, we want to discourage bicycle bozos that push the pace and ride recklessly from joining our ride. Fairly hilly, reasonable style, bring your own food. Cue sheet and map provided. This is a training ride so we won't linger too long but we will make plenty of stops for photo ops, bathroom, snacks and coffee. Post-ride brew and eats at the Woodinville Red Hook Brewery's Forecasters Pub. From 405 take eastbound Exit 23 (522 toward Monroe and Wenatchee) to the Woodinville exit. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and go three blocks to NE 175th Street. Turn right again, cross the railroad tracks and turn left at the stop sign onto 202. Pass Chateau Ste. Michelle winery on your right, and Columbia winery, Red Hook Brewery and Willows Lodge on your left. Go across the bridge over the Sammamish River and take the next left into the parking lot next to the softball fields (Northshore Sports Complex).

    We ride the Iron Horse Rail Trail to Snoqualmie Tunnel with a lunch stop at Hyak/Snoqualmie Summit. Lights are required for the tunnel. We return on the old highway and descend west back to Rattlesnake Lake. Wide tires are recommended.

    Whether you are riding in R.A.W. or not, become "R.A.W. material" on this training series leading up to R.A.W. 2001. This month I offer a two-part ride. Part One on Saturday will be a loop of part of Lake Washington and all of Lake Sammamish. Going around the east side of Sammamish and the west side of Washington.     This ride follows the Pilchuck River Valley to Granite Falls for lunch. We will continue up the river valley, cross over to the Carpenter Creek and back to Machias. Machias Station is on the Centennial Trail about 5 miles north of Snohomish. Take Maple Ave. out of Snohomish. Maple becomes Machias Road and follows the Centennial Trail. At the "Tee" turn right, cross the Centennial Trail-in approximately half a mile there will be signs to the Station and Trail.

Meet in the parking lot near front of Center.
