Calendar for January 2001

Helmets are required on all Cascade Bicycle Club rides. All the rides are classified according to pace and the type of services provided by the ride leader.

Cascade Bicycle Club does not sponsor or endorse any non-bicycling activities that people may participate in while on these rides. You are responsible for your conduct and decisions while on a Cascade ride.

Cascade membership and activities are open to everyone able and willing to participate in a safe and cooperative manner and in support of the purposes of the club.

It is not the practice of the Cascade Bicycle Club to exclude anyone from a club activity as long as they behave in a safe and cooperative manner.


Monday, January 1st

Ring Out the Old, Ring in the New, (a.k.a. 2001, a Cycling Odyssey)

No, not that Odyssey! The 11th Annual New Year's Day Ride and my final ride before moving to California in February. Join us to kick off the New Year or just for one last ride together. It'll be an easy ride, with a hill or two for old time's sake. Bring your H.A.L. 9000 computer. If it rains or a monolith is discovered, we'll meet at 4:45 for dinner.

Not the Rose Bowl Parade Tour de Susan

The ride leader is an escapee from the Odyssey 2000 world bike tour who prefers sleeping in to rising at 4:30 am to ride in the Rose Bowl pre-parade that no one will see. We will "parade" to downtown Seattle and along Lake Washington. The starting location is just off the Burke-Gilman Trail about 2 miles NE of the UW. Please do not park in the Albertson's lot.

TREATS: Do Auburn to Black Diamond

(Note 10:00 start time!) See the Green River Gorge in winter with lunch at Black Diamond Bakery. Please join me. Directions to start: From Seattle, south on I-5; take Hwy 18 East (exit 142A) and get off on the Auburn-Black Diamond exit, then left under Hwy 18, then left again into the lot.

Lights required. Year-round training rides for one-day STP riders. Rides stress safety, fitness, and group riding skills. Fast pace line with some sprints from Renton to surrounding areas (Bellevue, Issaquah, May Valley, Kent, or Mercer Island). Large turnout splits into faster/slower groups.

Ride leaves promptly at 7:05 pm. Ride pace will be high moderate to low brisk. Route varies each week. Headlights and helmets are always required. Dinner stop at Petro's Pizza or Spiro's Pizza after the ride.

Directions: Take I-90 east to Hwy 18 exit, left under freeway, 3 miles to Railroad Ave, right 1 mile to the Pavillion.

Every two hours, counter clockwise loops of Lake Sammamish. How many loops can you do before you get dizzy? Lights required for 4:00 am and 6:00 am starts. Limited services. All paces welcome, but ride leader will be riding moderate.
Directions: I-90 to Exit 17, go north for 3/4 mile. The Albertson's is located at East Lake Sammamish & SE 56th.

Directions: From I-5, take Hwy 2 East to 20th St SE (Hewitt Avenue). Follow Hewwitt to the Machias Cutoff and turn right (becomes Machias Road). Turn left on Division.
