The First Maildrop

WFB writes a letter dated 5/20/1896 in which he relates much of the subterfuge revolving around the politics in the school district. In the end he confides that he is feeling appreciated:

Dear Charles:-

...

It seems that I haven't lost much by fighting openly in the school elections.

...

Time is getting short. We may start as early as the 6th and I think you had better send your gun to me. I shall probably not strap it on till we get to South Seattle.

After June 1st you had better address me at Spokane, or to put it differently we shall hope to be in Spokane by the 13th or 15th. I will keep you posted by cards, and to save me writing so many, you had better send them home occasionally. Everyone in town knows of our contemplated wheel trip. The wheel club will give us a good send off here, and probably 30 or 40 will see us out of town. The letters we have received from varoius points indicate that most of the way we will be accompnied by wheelmen who are familiar with the road.

No more for tonight.

Will
