6/20 29 Riders - mix was slightly more women than men. Norm Tjaden was recruited to help Chris Gilbert and
myelf with the ride leader duties. Ride out was 27.2 miles from Bainbridge to Port Gamble via Fay Bainbridge
State park, Suquamish, and Kingston. Several times we split into faster/slower groups and 10 were sent
ahead with Norm to Albertson's, bypassing Kingston, to buy food for the picnic. When the main group arrived
at Albertson's, we sent 10 more riders with the previous 10 with Chris and Norm such that the latter group
could buy food at the Port Gamble store's lunch counter. The remainder also bought food at Albertson's and
then joined the others in Port Gamble for a nice picnic. Picnicing under the shade trees on Port Gamble's Bluff
was a real joy, especially as I checked my temp gauge and it said 91 F. Later, Norm led 10 riders on the
shorter/flatter escape route (18 miles) back to the Bainbridge Ferry while the rest did the 28.0 miles skirting
the Hood Canal Bridge, visiting Kitsap Memorial Park, then to Poulsbo and its great bakery. We also saw the
one hump camel, and a few saw the two hump camel with the Llama's a complete no show, on the Big Valley
road route from KMP into Poulsbo. We did not stop at the Bloedel Reserve or the West Point Madison Preserve
as the continuing 91 degree heat was taking its toll, Port Madison's location was noted on the way out
earlier.

I think all would indicate they enjoyed the ride thoroughly, even with the extra hot weather.

Ferry out 9:35 AM arriving at Bainbridge 10:20 AM.
Arrive at Port Gamble 1:00 PM - Leave 2:15 PM
Ferry back (main group) reached at 4:45 PM partially due to its being 15 minutes late loading.
(The escape group probably took the 2:55 or 3:55 ferry as they also did not stop at the Poulsbo bakery.)

Total Mileage 55.2 miles (27.2 out and 28.0 in)
Temp 91 F for most of ride
Time in saddle 4:53.12
Average Speed 12.4 (actually would have been slightly faster as I did some circling at times.)
Max Speed 38.7 MPH
Total Altitude Gain 3510 feet (Ferry off to Ferry load)

Incidents - 1 flat tire, quickly fixed, and I had a clicking sound, like magnet hitting bike computer sensor,
that turned out to be a substantial staple stuck in the rear tire (the click actually sounded
as if it was coming from the front tire area although we checked the rear several times).
The staple was not located until a detailed checkout after arriving home.

Next B.L.T.S.S. rides are 7-11 and 7-25 :

80 miles to Jarrell Cove ( a great STP tune-up) - Unbelievably gorgeous state park.

Repeat by request of a popular May ride.
