East Lake Sammamish Trail is Open to Riders
March 2006
After eight years of hard work and legal battles, the East Lake Sammamish Trail is finally open to the public. The ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 21st 2006 marked the completion of a major north-south route connecting the Burke-Gilman and Sammamish River Trails to the I-90 Trail south of Lake Sammamish.
While the trail is now open to many users, road bikes and skateboarders will have to wait to use the facility until the interim gravel trail is paved. Paving will proceed once the Metropolitan King County Council adopts a master plan and the relevant permits are obtained. According to a King County press release, the Master Plan should be adopted some time in 2006.
We here at Cascade Bicycle Club extend our warmest thanks to our members and all the groups and individuals that helped make the East Lake Sammamish Trail a reality. Congratulations!
