Pro-Bike Candidates
2008 Election Endorsment
Holding candidates and elected officials accountable is central to Cascade's mission to "Create Better Communities through Bicycling." We issue endorsements because the policies that affect bicycling begin and end with our elected representatives.
The 36th and 46th Legislative Districts contain the largest number of Cascade Bicycle Club members by legislative district in Washington State. They are also solidly Democratic districts where, once elected, legislators tend to serve until retirement. These factors compound our need to support the best candidate in each of these districts.
Each year, we invite candidates to complete questionnaires that examine, in detail, their record, positions and agenda with regard to our constituents and Cascade’s mission. Cascade staff and board members then evaluate each candidate's past votes, talk to local activists, and interview candidates as necessary. Finally, we ask ourselves, "If elected, will they work with us to improve conditions for bicycling?"
The new “Top Two” primary system has slowed this year’s process, but we will have our usual comprehensive list of endorsements ready for the November contest. To date, Cascade Bicycle Club has endorsed the following candidates on the November election ballot:
