AmeriCorps Commute Programs Assistant
Help expand the reach of the Cascade Bicycle Club Education Foundation’s commute programs through community-building, outreach, education and communications. As part of our newly expanded commute department, develop new relationships with employers to encourage bike commuting, teach commute classes and assist with business site assessments, infrastructure consulting and the development/deployment of a bicycle-friendly rating system for employers. Also develop presentations, support and lead community events, compile current research and best practices related to the environmental and health benefits of bike commuting, write education articles and generate materials and webpage content for internal and external communications. Recruit volunteers to assist with events and programs.
AmeriCorps Community Programs Assistant
Manage community and Bicycle Ambassador outreach programs, helping create bicycle safety programs for all ages. Also manage in-office helmet sales and assist with bicycle helmet volunteers and trainings; recruit new Bicycle Ambassadors and volunteers; and assist in managing adult classes program. Help produce Bike to Work Month, a community event in May with 20,000+ participants. Develop our Bike to School Month program for high school and middle school students and assist with an after school club. Experience working with kids and adults and writing/ communication/ organizational skills desirable.
AmeriCorps Youth Programs Assistant
Join dynamic education team to manage bicycle programs in elementary schools, bike deliveries for school programs, and volunteer maintenance workparties for school program bikes. Assist in teaching middle school clubs/summer camps and run Bike to School Month program for elementary schools. Participate in managing and expanding elementary school programs and camps serving 10,000+ kids per year and teach kids in summer camps. Keep track of program materials and deliveries, recruit volunteers for bike maintenance parties, and manage bike to school month and kids’ bike events. Creative disposition, organizational skills, and experience working with kids is desirable.
AmeriCorps Outreach Assistant (Major Taylor Project):
Member will help build bicycling in low-income and minority communities, through managing the exciting Major Taylor Project (bicycle clubs for disadvantaged high school students). Duties include curriculum development and teaching for Major Taylor Clubs, assisting with hiring and training instructors, and scheduling instructors, volunteers and club activities. Work will also include scheduling/organizing and recruiting volunteers for Trips for Kids mountain bike rides, another Cascade program for low-income kids. Member will develop community presentations, write education articles and generate educational materials. Creative disposition, organizational skills, program management skills and experience working with teens is desirable.
Positions run from 10/1/2010 to 8/15/2011. Members receive stipend, health benefits, and education award through the state AmeriCorps program. These AmeriCorps positions are restricted to ages 18-25 (must be not over age 25 by start date of Oct. 1). Interviews will take place in early August.
