Heads up! Ballard locks to close due to government shutdown

If your commute takes you through the Ballard Locks, be aware that the locks will close to pedestrian and bicycle traffic starting at 4 p.m. today due to the government shutdown.

The US Corps of Engineers announced that it will be curtailing some services and closing its campgrounds and day-use parks nationwide beginning today, due to the lack of fiscal 2014 funding legislation.

The park grounds at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard will close, and cyclists and walkers won't have access to or through the park. The locks will be closed until funding restoration.
