A temporary protected bike lane on 2nd Avenue for Park(ing) Day

Park(ing) Day is all about imagining how cities could use public space. With the remastering of the Seattle Bicycle Master Plan, and parklets springing up, how we use public space is a hot topic.

On Friday find a temporary "park" near you.

I am pretty excited about Park(ing) Day this year. Cascade Bicycle Club, Connect Seattle and Commute Seattle are hosting a temporary protected bike lane on 2nd Ave downtown Seattle between Madison and Marion from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition to making one block of downtown temporarily safer for bicyclists, we will also be out educating people on how to use the new infrastructure. We will also have a few political candidates there to chat.

- Seattle Council President Sally Clark will be there at 12:15 p.m.
- Seattle Councilmember Mike O'Brien at 1:15 p.m.
- Seattle Port Commissioner John Creighton at 1:30 p.m.

There will be an additional 44 other "parks" around the city including an interactive museum done by Rainier Valley Greenways in south Seattle, and bike trails hosted by Timbuk2 and Zipcar.
