Annual Membership Meeting

Meeting room doors open at 5:30 Meeting starts at 6:30 Please join us at the Cascade Bicycle Club Annual Meeting this Thursday. Learn how the club is doing with reports from program department heads and board members.
Meeting room doors will open at 5:30, and the meeting will start at 6:30. A sign-in sheet will be provided if you wish to speak during the facilitation discussion / Q&A portion of the meeting. Speakers will be allowed up to three minutes. Comment sheets will also be provided if you wish to submit written comments at the meeting. If you cannot make the meeting, we invite you to submit comments on the blog. Board of Directors election: Members may return ballots for the Board of Directors election at the Annual Membership Meeting or mail them in. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Oct. 21. |

Classes "wrap" in November
Now is the time to make good on that resolution you made back in January to "take a couple of classes this year." We'll be running our regular maintenance classes at our Magnuson Park office as well as Urban Cycling Techniques, How to Ride in Traffic. We'll get you up to speed on fixing a flat, adjusting your chains and derailleurs and keeping your brakes in tip top shape for the gnarly winter months. Classes are "hands-on your bike" and are held upstairs at the Cascade Bicycle Club office. Fix a Flat -- Monday, Nov. 1, 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Chains and Derailleurs -- Wednesday, Nov. 10, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Brakes, Wheels and Tires -- Wednesday, Nov. 17, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Check our blog post detailing a first timer's Urban Cycling Techniques experience, and don't miss this opportunity to secure your spot in the class before winter is truly upon us. There is something to be learned by most cyclists -- from newer riders to experienced know-it-alls. This is also the pre-requisite for those wishing to become League of American Bicyclists certified instructors. Urban Cycling Techniques -- Nov. 20 and 21, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. HOT TIP! The first eight people to register for any November class will receive a $5 off voucher for your next class! Register today! Calling Seattle voters:Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn's proposed budget for the years 2011 and 2012 includes $13 million of dedicated funding for bicycle, pedestrian and transit infrastructure. Seattle City Council is deciding, right now, whether to keep the funding in the final budget. Will you speak up with us at an important budget hearing about why this $13 million is so important for our city?
If you can't make it, please write the City Council today to tell them why you support dedicated funding for bikes, feet and transit. True, $13 million might sound like a lot of money, but it hardly amounts to a full piece of pie when it comes to the entire $3.9 billion proposed budget for 2011 and 2012:
For such a tiny sliver of the budget, that $13 million will dish up a lot of positive change. In addition to bringing essential safety improvements -- at last! -- to Linden Ave. North, $13 million in dedicated funding will let Seattle complete its Transit Master Plan and make real progress on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plans. We'll also get necessary sidewalk repairs, stairway fixes, crosswalk remarking and bike enhancements. The funding in the Mayor's proposed budget keeps Seattle moving towards a transportation system that works for all of its residents. We suspect you feel as strongly about it as we do. That's why we hope you'll join us on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at Seattle City Hall or write to your councilmembers. 
Pro-bike candidates for the general election on Nov. 2 From friends who are working toward a consensus on the Vulnerable User Bill in the legislature to new candidates who are passionate about making bicycling part of our transportation solutions, your support will help us elect true champions working for bike issues come the 2011 legislative session in January. Do you want to see the state preserve funding for trails around the state? Would you like for the state to require people who have been sentenced to remedial driving school to learn about bicycle and pedestrian safety? We can't pass laws without allies in the legislature, and we can't elect allies without your vote. We know that you, as an informed voter, take many issues into consideration when casting your vote.
