For 2009, the team is divided into two groups:
Expert: Cyclists who already have the bike handling skills and fitness to ride in a rotating paceline at a strenuous effort level, and the endurance to ride at least 50 miles.
Development: Cyclists who are working towards becoming an expert cyclist and want the support of stronger riders as well as the coaching to help them.
Riders self-select which group to join. Riders who start a ride with the expert group but find the pace too difficult can fall back and join the development group which will follow the same route behind the experts.
Our coaching partner is Cycle University, which is a bicycle school and bicycle-specific coaching facility that teaches riders of all levels how to improve rapidly. Cycle U is run by former pro Craig Undem and his staff of professional coaches.
Team membership includes:
- Priority registration (event fees not included) for theHigh Pass Challenge
- HPC team jersey ($75 value)
- Fitness testing and evaluation to establish and check power and/or heart rate based training zones ($75 value)
- Monthly team skills clinics open only to the HPC team. Most rides feature a coaching session from a Cycle U coach followed by a team ride to practice those skills. The whole team will meet for the clinic, then break into groups according to speed for the rides. ($75 value)
- Discounts on cycling products including Specialized bikes and equipment, Nunn and Clifbar (a very high value for those who participate)
- 10% Discount on CycleU services and retail products
