Bicycle Planning and Policy Issues

Regional Routes

Work with regional and local planners to identify and implement a system of well-connected regional bicycle routes.

Bike Facilities on New Roads

Promote policies in regional and local government bodies that would require the construction of bicycle facilities (bike lanes or wide curb lanes) in new road projects and reconstruction projects.

Retrofitting Existing Roads with Bicycle Facilities

Identify existing roads that should be improved with bicycle lanes or wide curb lanes, and advocate for bicycle-friendly improvements.

Bicycle Friendly Transit

Work with transit planners and operators to insure that existing and planned transit centers, rail stations, and transit vehicles are designed to accommodate bicycles.

Bicycle Commuting

Encourage employers to provide bicycle storage, showers, and clothing lockers and work with businesses and local jurisdictions to promote bicycling to work.

Route Signage

Work with local jurisdictions to develop and post bicycle route signage.

Bicycle Maps

Develop standards for bicycle maps and promote the consistent implementation of those standards across local jurisdictions in the region.

Share the Road Campaign

Develop and implement a campaign to educate drivers and bicyclists about mutual rights and responsibilities.
