Ride Leader Volunteer Opportunities

Becoming a Ride Leader

Ride leaders are the heart and soul of our Rides program. Our 100+ ride leaders keep the calendar filled throughout the year. If you have an idea for a new ride or don't see your favorite ride listed, consider joining our leaders' team.

Ride Leader Certification

Cascade members who want to be new ride leaders are required to attend a "ride leader certification" session, held at the office usually every other month. See the club activity calendar for any scheduled certification session, or find it listed in the Cascade Courier. Contact the rides chairs at cbcrides@cascadebicycleclub.org for answers to any other questions.

To Become a Cascade Ride Leader a Candidate must:

  1. Be a current member of Cascade Bicycle Club and have reached their 18th birthday.

  2. Participate in at least 5 Cascade Daily rides (not events) and become acquainted with an experienced leader who will be their sponsor.

  3. Attend a Ride Leader Certification Session and become fully acquainted with the materials handed out, and the policies affecting Ride Leaders.

  4. Read and become fully acquainted with the Cascade Web Site, especially Free Daily Rides, Ride Leader Information, Newcomers, and Ride Calendar pages.

  5. Actively co-lead 2 or more rides with their sponsor AFTER fulfilling steps 1-4. The candidate should contact the sponsor before the ride, show up 20 minutes early, give the safety speech, check helmets, make sure the waiver is filled out properly, and help the sponsor as requested.

  6. At all times the candidate must realize that Ride Leaders are Cascade's representatives to the community and are expected to always behave in a professional manner. Ride Leaders are expected to understand the mission and goals of Cascade and be dedicated to fulfilling the mission and goals as ambassadors of Cascade Bicycle Club.

  7. When completed, the candidate will send the certification coordinator the list of their required ride dates and sponsors involved.

  8. The Rides Chair will consider information from all sources and certify the candidate, refuse certification, and/or make recommendations for further training. He/she will inform the candidate.
